Army officers were required to purchase their own camp equipment in WWI. The canvas valise, in either undyed white or khaki, was a common item in the AEF. The valise carried the officer's spare uniforms and toiletries, while the canvas bedroll contained his bedding, cot, and other camp equipment.

This classic bedroll was used by British & Commonwealth officers in WWI and WWII.  US Officers purchased many of them during WWI.  It was used to carry an officer's bedding, and could be slept in when the situation required.  It is made of heavy khaki canvas, with leather trim on the edges and sturdy leather belts to secure the roll.
