In 1917 the US Army began making barracks bags in blue denim to speed up production. These continued in use until at least 1943, when they were replaced with the duffel bag. Soldiers were issued two of these bags for overseas movement: an A bag to accompany the soldier, and a B bag to go in the cargo hold.
