I used mostly South African webbing in Rhodesia, but this pack does stir memories of canvass & straps getting heavy in the rain. One thing I do notice with the quick release tabs is that these are sewn the whole length, wheras the ones I remember were sewn about 2/3 of the distal portion, leaving 1/3 as a quick "pull" tab when the lower part was inserted through the closure. I ca resew these, so its not a big issue. Overall, I'm happy with the purchase.

When old people say we’re stupid they’re right. There won’t be a manual or anything so you need to figure out how the straps work. Some require loosening of part of it to loosen another bit so that it’s adjustable. Parts of it are very similar to what the British army uses now (the straps holding down pouches although now they’re partially plastic) and again requires figuring out to not have it come loose. It’s very sturdy however and is the original pack used which is great for recreating Rhodesian Troopies. It’s a great pack and I recommend it. Just get used to the way everything works and you’ll be fine.
