I am offering this reproduction just as they were originally issued, in vegetable tanned undyed russet leather.  The leather will darken over time with exposure to saddle soap, oil and polish.  The buckle is blackened brass as originally specified, although most originals buckles were eventually polished.  Belts come in a maximum length to last adjustment hole of 38, 42 or 48 inches.  Please specify your preference.

Belts copy original markings, but with inspector initials of WPG.  As always, I guarantee satisfaction.  And, for the dolt who always has to ask, the belt is made of leather.

What historical period does this reproduction belt represent?

This reproduction is of the US Army garrison belt adopted around 1904. It was introduced during the transition from black to russet leather. The garrison belt design remained largely unchanged until 1942. It is suitable for wear with an M1902 Full Dress Uniform.

How does the leather change over time?

The undyed russet leather will darken with exposure to saddle soap, oil, and polish. Applying neatsfoot oil and saddle soap helps prepare it for use. The leather also darkens nicely with wear over time.

What kind of buckle does the belt have?

The buckle is made of blackened brass, as originally specified for the period. While originally specified as blackened, most original buckles were eventually polished. The buckle is correct to the Ordnance Department specification.

How should I care for the belt?

The leather will darken over time with exposure to saddle soap, oil, and polish. Applying a couple of light coats of neatsfoot oil, carefully avoiding the stitching, and a good rub of saddle soap will prepare it for use. This care routine helps the leather darken nicely.

What is included with the belt?

The reproduction is offered just as the original belts were issued. It comes with two belt loops. The belt copies original markings, but with inspector initials of WPG.

Is the belt suitable for carrying equipment?

The belt is solid and well-made, making it suitable for carrying various accessories. It works well with a holster and ammo pouch, and can be used as a pistol rig. It is also described as a good stout belt for everyday use with an off-duty holster, cuff holder, and magazine pouch.
