The 1899 pattern frog is unique in having two slots, one for the Enfield bayonet scabbard, the other for an entrenching tool. No evidence has been found to show that any entrenching tool was ever actually adopted. When the Ross rifle was adopted by the Canadian Army this frog was dropped,
