By 1905, the Marine Corps had retired the old blue flannel wool service shirt in favor of a new khaki/ mustard colored flannel service shirt that could be worn with or without the stand collar service coat.
Both 1905 and 1917 versions were used in the Great War and used into the 1920s until the Marine Corps designed a new summer field shirt that was introduced in a lightweight cotton fabric.
